Festival 2018 celebrates the spirit of the Commonwealth; showcasing our state’s creativity and capturing the unique lifestyle and culture of Queensland and its communities. Townsville will host national, international – and importantly – local performers and artists in a program that will amaze visitors and the local community, and build a legacy of what an arts festival can bring to the city and region.
Watch Channel Seven’s broadcast of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games action at all Festival sites. Participate in fun and creative workshops, join in sporting activities and see daily laser art displays, roving entertainers, film and exhibitions across the city.
Festival 2018 in Townsville will be showcased across three iconic Townsville sites, including Queens Gardens, Strand Park and Jezzine Barracks.
Queens Gardens will replicate the famous festival settings of the Adelaide Fringe Festival’s Garden of Unearthly Delights – and will feature for the first time ever in Townsville – not one but two Spiegeltents showcasing performances of music, dance, theatre, circus and comedy. There will also be a Festival Stage in Queen’s Gardens and a continuous program of free shows and events.
A showpiece of Festival 2018 will be a towering container art park, Uncontained, in Strand Park. Uncontained will create a space of art, entertainment, food, music, and community; drawing upon our city’s famous street and building art program with international, national and local artists working on towering container structures. Uncontained will also incorporate a Games telecast live site during the days and nights of competition.
Jezzine Barracks parklands will also feature during the festival with the opening and closing events to coincide with live site telecasting of the Games ceremonies.
