An evening with Archie Roach

Continuing on from last year’s successful music and community series at Mudgeeraba Memorial Hall, Bleach* Festival is proud to present An Evening with Archie Roach.

Archie is a man of few words and one of Australia’s most treasured performers. But when he speaks, or sings, those words lift you up, transport you and humble you. He is that rarest of beings … one that sees beyond race, religion, gender and ideology … to get straight to the heart of what it means to be human. And what he sees at the heart of humanity is love.

Archie is supported by Groot Eylant born, now Gold Coast local songwriter and storyteller, Emily Wurramara.

Discover culture and heritage in every beat and skip of Emily Wurramara’s music.

With a penchant for crafting deeply engaging and personal songs, the 20-year-old sings in both English and Anindilyakwa, the traditional language of her home on Groote Eylandt in the Northern Territory.

Emily, who is kicking serious music goals, collaborated with Bernard Fanning to write her first single, 'Ngerraberrakernama' and worked with producer David Bridie to record her debut EP, 'Black Smoke'. Since then she's scored national airplay on ABC and triple j, a couple of 2016 Queensland Music Award nominations and a triple j Unearthed showcase at Big Sound.

Emily has toured across Australia and performed at major festivals including Island Vibes, Woodford Folk Festival and Bleach* Festival. She has also performed abroad at festivals in Sweden and France.

Come along and share her music - from traditional stories and nursery rhymes, to songs about facing ever-present challenge and simply growing up.

ʺA serious contender in the Australian music scene.ʺ BEAT.
