The Republic of Zambia (formerly known as Northern Rhodesia) is a landlocked, fertile and mineral rich country on the southern African plateau. It is bordered by eight countries, five of which are Commonwealth nations. It joined the Commonwealth in 1964, however made its first appearance at the Commonwealth Games in 1954.
Zambia’s first gold medal came at the Christchurch 1974 Commonwealth Games when Lotti Mwale won the men’s light middleweight division in boxing. It won two bronze medals at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, in boxing and judo.
The Zambia National Olympic Committee was formed in 1964 and is responsible for Zambia’s participation in the Commonwealth Games and Commonwealth Youth Games.
