Scotland is located in northern Europe with coastline adjoining the North Sea and Atlantic Ocean. It shares a border with England. Scotland is approximately half the size of England, but most of its landmass is comprised of moorlands, mountains and approximately 800 islands.
Since its debut at the Hamilton 1930 British Empire Games, Scotland has participated in every games and won medals each time. Scotland was represented by 15 athletes at its first games and most recently by 310 athletes in 2014.
Glasgow, Scotland was the host of the Commonwealth Games in 2014, at which Scotland proudly secured a total of 53 medals, 19 of which were gold. Scotland’s capital city, Edinburgh, has hosted two editions of the Commonwealth Games – in 1970 and 1986. Edinburgh also hosted the inaugural Commonwealth Youth Games in 2000.
