Bahamas
Bahamas first attended the Commonwealth Games in 1954 although the coral archipelago of around 700 islands did not join the Commonwealth until 1973. Since its inaugural appearance, Bahamas has only missed two Commonwealth Games – the Christchurch 1974 Commonwealth Games and the Edinburgh 1986 Commonwealth Games.
The nation has won the vast majority of its medals on the athletics track. This includes Tonique Williams and Laverne Eve’s silver medals in the women’s 400m sprint and javelin respectively at the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games.
Fifty athletes represented Bahamas at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games in athletics, swimming, boxing, cycling, judo and wrestling.
