Malaysian Izhar Ahmad sets first Commonwealth record of GC2018
Muhammad Azroy Hazalwafie Izhar Ahmad has set the first Commonwealth record of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games, with a winning total of 261kg in the men's 56kg class on the opening day at Carrara Sports and Leisure Centre.
Izhar Ahmad's third clean and jerk of 144kg secured the record and an unbeatable lead in a dominant performance.
He celebrated by dancing, running a lap of the lifting area, then cruising around the platform area with the Malaysian flag.
Gururaja from India won silver, while Chaturanga Lakmal of Sri Lanka took bronze.
Weightlifting events continue until Monday April 9 at Carrara Sports Arena.
