If laughter is the best medicine, you’ll be sporting a healthy glow as Festival 2018 unleashes the LOLs.

The kidult comedian troupe The Listies have the Commonwealth Games in their sites in their new show The Listies Go For Bronze at Kurrawa Park, Broadbeach. It’s a ridiculous interactive comedy hour that’s more game show than Games, and will tickle the funny bones of both kids and parents.

Sometimes there are no words, literally. Les Moutons (The Sheep) is a wordless surrealist work that showcases quirky quadruped behaviour at Kurrawa Park. Performers dressed as sheep inhabit a surrealist rural world where the humour is produced by acting out their farmyard foibles.

Still at Kurrawa Park, kids should hop aboard the Hot Dub Time Machine to boogie through the ages in Kid/Dub. It’s a time-travelling dance party complete with bubbles, bling and oodles of zany fun. Finally - a musical birthday party for everyone!

From 4:30pm, Flock takes centre stage on Surfers Paradise beach, taking the serious edge off contemporary dance. With the rolling waves as a backdrop, 60 local dancers take to the sand clad in shiny foil sleeves and unleash a provocative exploration of our search for meaning in the natural world.

Stay on the Surfers Paradise beach as the sun goes down to catch Privacy Settings - a show that will have you laughing nervously at modern behaviour in our digital world. It’s a mix of dance, theatre and colour-drenched animation that examines whether privacy is an outdated concept in our screen-centric society.

On the Roundabout Stage at Broadbeach, stand in awe of the rising stars of Australian circus in Jumping Point (above). Comedian and contortionist Captain Frodo marshals his troupe to unleash a spellbinding show of acrobatic expression and aerial illusion. 

The Jungle Giants (above) are all over the airwaves right now, and this radio-friendly four-piece headline a line-up of the best of local indie pop playing the Queensland Music Stage from 7pm. With Eliza & the Delusionals, and The Creases keeping the crowd dancing, expect The Jungle Giants’ zany stage presence to take things next-level late into the night.

For one night only, the Surfers Paradise Main Stage will host one of the most anticipated shows of Festival 2018 - The Spirit of Churaki. Don’t miss this theatrical work that tells the epic story of the first documented act of lifesaving on the Gold Coast, by local Aboriginal man Churaki. Talent including Brian Richie (Violent Femmes), Kyle Slabb, Fred Leone and Leah Flanagan, work with a cavalcade of Australian musical talent and visuals from Vernon Ah Kee to create a truly unmissable artistic experience.
