Cavendish hurt in crash
Champion cyclist Mark Cavendish has abandoned the Abu Dhabi Tour after crashing and hurting his shoulder on stage one.
The Manx rider, who won the opening stage of last year's race, hit the deck in the neutral zone shortly after setting off on Wednesday from Madinat Zayed.
The 32-year-old managed to get back on his bike but was forced to pull out of the event soon after.
"@MarkCavendish went down in the neutral zone, falling on the same shoulder he broke last year," his team Dimension Data tweeted.
"He got up and chased back to the peloton but had to abandon soon after. More info to come after medical check."
Cavendish was named as part of Isle of Man's Commonwealth Games team in January.
